Capgemini, the leading French multinational providing consulting, technology and outsourcing services, has opened its new research and development (R&D) “mobility lab” in Gaia with an initial workforce of 350.
The company, which is targeting a headcount of 700 by 2025, will use the new centre to test software solutions and applications for the automobile industry, including autonomous driving, cloud connectivity, and automatic verification and validation solutions based on artificial intelligence (AI). BMW, Volkswagen, Renault, Bosch, Continental and Panasonic Automotive are named as being among the company’s major clients.
Rui Coelho, head of R&D at Capgemini Engineering , commented: “This new centre reinforces Capgemini Portugal’s commitment to developing the skills of its Portuguese team in the area of automotive software”, underlining that the firm’s goal was to make Portugal a hub for autonomous driving and sustainable transport.
Recruitment is currently open for around 200 roles.
