A new teaching and technology center called Gaia Infinity Hub is to be built on a 21-hectare site in Madalena near the northern Portuguese town of Vila Nova de Gaia, local authorities have announced.
Developed by the Brazilian firm Gestao de Capital & Management as part of a total investment of €700 million ($770 million), the new hub is designed to bring together students, renowned educational institutions and large companies in a single location with the aim of creating an ecosystem that is able to compete globally. The project establishes a ten-year “learning and entrepreneurship curve” with the aim of incubating young talent and catapulting it to leadership positions in the world’s largest companies.
Gaia Infinity Hub is projected to welcome around 8,000 students and 1,500 teachers, with the potential to support around a further 15,000 direct positions. Gestao de Capital & Management is delivering the project through a specially-created company called Gaia Innovation City.
Gaia authorities named Amazon, Netflix, Tesla, Apple, IBM, Microsoft, and Google as companies that may potentially rent space in the new development, with O Gaiense claiming Samsung will also be among the companies involved.
